The word "Sudarshan" is compounded from two Sanskrit terms: "Su", meaning good or auspicious, and "philosophy", meaning vision. Combined, the term is symbolic of "auspicious vision," heavenly insight and spiritual clarity. The Vishnu Chakra, also called as such, is more than an astronomical weapon; It symbolizes all the looking on, all-knowing nature of Vishnu, which brings back the balance by doing away with chaos and injustice.


 


As per scriptures, actual Sudarshan Chakra is not an imaginary symbol. It is said to be a revolving, discs-shaped weapon with 108 serrated edges, which can be accelerated to lightning speed and returning to his guru after completing its purpose. This sacred discus is referred as self-awareness and works independently under the orders of Vishnu. It is often linked with divine desire, underlining justice and defeat of unrighteousness.
