Tanzanite jewelry is a mineral variety of zoisite (which is nothing but a type of calcium aluminum hydroxyl sorosilicate). The blue or violet hue of Tanzanite is caused due to small amounts of vanadium present in it. Tanzanite is a rare mineral, and the only site of tanzanite explored until now is the Simanjiro District of the Manyara Region in Tanzania. The mining area is relatively small (approximately 7 kilometres long and 2 kilometres wide) and is near the Mererani Hills.Tanzanite is known for its strong trichroism (an optical effect), because of which it displays alternate colors of blue, violet, and burgundy. This display of colors depends on crystal orientation.
